Xích-lô (Cyclo)

Xích-lô (Cyclo) is a reflective film of the director's return to Saigon, Vietnam, for the first time since her departure.  M. Trinh Nguyen juxtaposes her past in Vietnam against her present, exploring self-definition in the process of returning to what was once her home and sole point of reference. Still haunted by memories of those early years in Vietnam, she deftly intercuts old home movies showing her family in Saigon during the war with Super-8 footage of Vietnam today. Xích-lô (Cyclo) is an elegant, meditative examination of what it means to exist in a space between two cultures.
